It's in our corporate dress code to not have any tattoos showing outside of reasonable professional clothes. Meaning, tattoos on the hands, wrists, neck, or other visible parts for males or females, are prohibited.

Yes. I worked at McD's and multiple times I've seen my managers straight out tell people that they wouldn't even be considered for the job because of a small visible tattoo.
McD's is a little different from government stuff, but you will likely find the same thing there.

In some careers, such an elementary school teacher, I definitely agree with tattoos needing to be covered up in the work place. Visible tattoos, such as on the face, neck, chest, wrist, hands, etc, do prevent you from landing a job in an educational setting, as well as a few other professional environments.

depends on the job. i was an assistant director for a camp and did a lot of the hiring. i was told visible tattoo,don't hire.its unprofessional. i'd never get a tattoo that was some place visible for that reason...

Well this is fuckig depressing. Might have to look at getting it removed at some point. My country's politics isn't nearly as conservative as that of most of the posters though, seeings as we have an atheist female as our PM. Hopefully by the time I'm ready to get involved our political culture will have relaxed a little.

I'd imagine anything more prestigious or high paying wouldn't allow visible tattoos.
