My husband and I live well on 45k a year.  If we made 40k each, I don't think we would know what to do with all the cash...

i'm not exactly looking for work hard, i've applied occasionally but only for shit i want to do at the payrate i want.

if i was that desperate or wanted to degrade myself, i'd walk down the street and become a supervisor at KFC

but i've had 3 job offers in the past week and im debating between two of em atm

20k/year is a decent living around here when you don't have kids. If I get this jobs with the county ambulance I will be making roughly 35,000-40,000 per year. That's a lot of money and I honestly cannot wait, but I wouldn't be upset to be making less.

it's not a case of people settling with a low wage. some people can't get a higher wage because they don't have the qualifications, experience or opporunities
don't you think people would rather earn a higher wage? what are you supposed to do when you're a mother who doesn't have time to go out and get the qualifications she needs, she can't take the time off to get them because she has to feed her kids, etc etc
it's not just as simple as going out and getting a higher wage

Why not just be a loving, helpful, intelligent person that people like to be around? You know, if everyone hated me, I would probably need 40K a year just to live. Provide free labor to help a friend fix his car, fix your neighbor's plumbing for free, give people advice, fix the wiring in their houses, fix their computers, make them gifts, bake them bread, clean. The result is you get to experience all sorts of new things every day, you build a secure community and you don't need much money to survive.

When you lose your job and their are no more jobs in your field, what will you do? Depending on a single source of security is just not very secure.

not to mention i'm WORTH $25 an hour and am way too overqualified to make less then 20.  

had a $17 job offer the other day. i WALKED out of the interview as i was THAT much insulted that they'd waste my time

You have to be worth something to someone. So to alot of people, you are worth alot less than that. What you mean is that you regard yourself as being worth that much. But if you think thats how the world of work sees you, then my friend you have some growing up to do.
