Regarding the test, approximately 22% of people who take the test pass it. I think it is already hard enough. If we make it harder there will be no one here to discuss anything.

Had you made this test any harder I probably would have failed miserably and been unable to face myself in the mirror!

Damn it, I don't see the need for having a character length filter...hmm. Anyway, I just wanted to know if there's any list anywhere showing who's passed it?

I wouldn't really consider it 'too' hard untill the passing rate went under 5%.  Still anyway, it is a small buffer against the growing level of stupidity that has been taking over large sections of livewire.

I was thinking last night of some fun things that could be thrown in there to just completly blow people away, and think that patterns in algebraic equations would be fun.

Also, the basics of the sciences, biology and geology especially, should be covered.

I like the little "Intellectual" label in our profiles.

(and the error message I got when I tried to post just that)

Personally I'd like to see some math questions.  Nothing too complex, of course, just enough to weed out those with no knowledge of mathematics.

We can work on the test as time passes. The general knowledge section, for instance, is probably less useful than the grammatical and logical portions.

Are you planning to put a moderator in this forum?
That would take care of any people who cheated just to get in and cause trouble...

Heh, I just discovered the post length limit.

Just because there isn't a moderator assigned to the forum does not mean that there are no moderator's watching it.

Yes I was indeed surprised not to see any questions in Mathematics or Science. Why stop at Biology? Chemistry and Physics are equally important.

I am singleing out those two sciences because it is quite common that we have had discussions on livewire that included them, and it just ends up into a big bunch of making fun of idiots who have no clue as to the basics of them.

It isn't very often that you see chemestry or physics playing a big role in any of the discussions around here, at least not enough of a role that they should be included in the test.

This is a fair point. This is true particularly of the sexuality forum where scientific and rational thought seems to consistently take a back seat to the pure and unabated raging of hormones...

The mathematics questions could cause problems for some people who would not cause any problems at all if they were allowed to post in here. They would also have to be algebraic type problems as people can just do things like multiplication using calculators. (I would probably have to do this, after school, my ability to do maths with numbers in my head has declined, and it was never all that good to begin with)

I was wondering if anyone knows why we have to be on the World map before we are able to take the intellectual Test.  I thought that the test was ok, but I thought that there would be some science or mathematics questions.

Someone just asked a question which also puzzles me. How long do intellectual posts have to be? That is, what is the minimum required amount of characters which must be posted?

Sometimes length or verbosity is not always synonymous with intellectual quality. A concise but pointed answer can be just as effective as a long and rambling reply.

While I share your view I would like to point out that computers are not so well adapted to determining if something is indeed intelligent. However, if the post is less than 120 characters (I think that's the length) it's likely to be nothing more than "I agree with that." or "Okay."

Very true indeed!

I do understand that you had to use the best criterion available and appropriate for the task and that establishing a minimum length does require the person who replies to elaborate more on their answer and give a more detailed supporting argument. This was not a criticism but just a remark of course.

I do tend to write longer posts in general in any case and I am afraid I even go slightly overboard occasionally. This minimum requirement will probably let me indulge in my pet weakness...
